On invitation of the Parliamentary Group of the Portuguese Socialist Party, the #ProgressiveEurope Interparliamentary Conference gathering MPs specialised in fiscal and budgetary affairs took place in the Assembleia da República on 15-16 September 2016. The European parliamentarians were welcomed by César Carlos, Chairman of the Socialist Group at Assembleia da República and by Paulo Trigo Pereira, Vice-Chairman of the financial and budgetary affairs committee. On Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 September 2016, the parliamentary group of the French Socialists in the Assemblée nationale organised in Paris the second Conference of the Presidents of socialist and social-democratic parliamentary groups from the European national parliaments. During this two-day conference, parliamentarians debated and submitted proposals on the future of the Eurozone and of the European Union.
The French news magazine L’Obs has published on 8 April 2016 an article about the interparliamentary Conference which took place in Paris on 7-8 April 2016.
After a first edition in Berlin in October 2015, the European progressive interparliamentary conference took place for the second time on 7-8 April 2016 in the Assemblée Nationale in Paris. This new meeting format is coming from the will of the socialist and social democratic MPs of the committees for finance and for budget of the national and European parliaments in order to exchange on economic policies to be implemented in Europe, to elaborate together convergence points.
For the first time ever, we, the National parliamentary group chairpersons of the Progressive parties of the European Union, have met in Rome, to express our commitment to progressive changes in our countries and in Europe and to strengthen cooperation and communication between the various social democratic group leaders in the national parliaments. This is an Italian Democratic Party’s initiative in cooperation with the German Social Democratic Party, which immediately has been joined by the Groups of the PES of Austria, France, Sweden, Hungary and Luxembourg.
